La portada del templo de Nuestra Señora del Carmen se acentúa por ser de estilo barroco en la ciudad. Columnas decoradas con estuco en bocetos floreados se relaciona al estilo barroco, ya que suministra la sensación de movimiento y mayor fijeza al inmueble.
Se concedió la libertad para edificar la Ermita de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, en 1638, abriéndose el mismo año, pero fue totalmente arruinada en 1651. Se edificó un nuevo santuario, mucho más grandioso, en 1686 y éste sufrió graves por las sacudidas de 1717. Posteriormente de enormes gastos, se concluyó la tercera edificación en 1728. En el interior de este templo, adornado y decorado con pinturas e imágenes coloniales en seis retablos y un ostentoso altar, fue uno de los más elegantes de la ciudad.
En 1773 El Carmen sufrió deterioros en julio de, pero sufrió mayor pérdida el 6 de diciembre del mismo año, cuando las cúpulas del templo se derrumbaron.
Hasta el 4 de febrero de 1976 se podía observar la imagen de Nuestra señora del Carmen.

The main entrance of Our Lady of El Carmen church is unique for its prevailing baroque style. Its stucco-decorated columns with floral designs are mainly baroque, due to the movement feeling, and at the same time solid image that it projects when you observe it. In 1638, the City Council signed every kind of authorizations in order to make possible the building of this church, but unfortunately, in 1651, it was totally destroyed by an earthquake. In 1686, a new and bigger sanctuary was built. And in 1717, this recent building suffered a lot of damages. Investing a great budget, they were able to rebuild it for the third time, concluding it in 1728. The inside area of the temple was decorated with colonial paintings and images, six retablos and a very luxurious altar, which made it one of the most elegant temples in the city.
In July of 1773, El Carmen was already in bad conditions, but on December of that same year it got worse when all of its domes feel down. Until the 4th. of February 1976 earthquake, the image of Our Lady of El Carmen still can be seen in its façade, but unfortunately not any more.
