Start Speaking Spanish as soon as possible!

We are a top rate school, offering personalized one-to-one teaching, and located in the beautiful city of Antigua Guatemala in Central America!

At “Universal” we focus on communication to teach you to speak Spanish. From the first day you will begin with Spanish conversational skills, allowing you to start using your Spanish with the people you meet in the streets, shops and at the markets of Antigua.

escuela de español universal As you become more proficient in Spanish, you will find yourself quickly learning new vocabulary and grammar. With the help of our professional staff, these words will quickly become part of your everyday Spanish conversational skills.

Our school is small enough to provide personalized attention, but big enough to offer the diversity that one seeks when learning a language. “Universal” is set within a typical colonial building with classes taken around a picturesque courtyard. You may also elect to take some classes in other locations (such as visiting the markets or tourist sites).

Why study in Antigua?

First things first, there is a lot of debate about where is the best place to study Spanish. Before you choose a school to study in, you´ll want to choose which location suits you the best.

There are lots of great places to study Spanish. Antigua is the most popular of them all. There are many reasons for this. Firstly, it is so close to the airport. In a simple and easy 45 minute shuttle ride, you can be delivered directly to the door of your Antigua language school or accommodation. Also, the locals here speak Spanish, whereas in many other towns, Spanish is the second language after a local indigenous tongue. Antigua is absolutely beautiful. And from here you can experience indigenous culture in the nearby villages, modern Guatemalan culture, and first class facilities as-well! You can also make easy weekend trips to some of Guatemala's other fantastic destinations, such as Lago Atitlan, Livingston, and Monterricco (see Activities - Weekend Excursions for more information.

What’s class like?

  • Teaching Methods
  • Specialized Vocabulary

There are many different ways to teach and to learn Spanish and your program will be tailored to suit both your needs and wants. Classes are usually private (one-to-one), but you can elect to take group classes if you have your own group.

Teaching Methods

Teachers can utilize a variety of teaching methods to keep class interesting and fun:
• Participatory Activities (Group conversation, word games),
• Oral and written exercises,
• Excursions,
• Spanish music to help the students improve their conversation and pronunciation.
Everybody speaks a little differently and in learning a new language you will need practice with many different accents. To accommodate this, or for any other reason, you may choose to change teachers at any time.

Specialized Vocabulary

“Universal” also offers specialized training and vocabulary lists for specific fields of work: teachers, travelers, doctors, lawyers, missionaries, airline employees, and other professionals. Please advise us if you have any special needs.

Activities & Excursions

Learning Spanish doesn't finish with your daily classes. There are many options for after class activities, excursions, and volunteer work. These can all teach you more about the culture and allow you to practice your Spanish.

  • Volunteering
  • Other Optional Activities
